Inner Mongolia’s Baotou shines in solar, wind power

Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is seeing fast growth in its solar and wind power industries.

In recent years, the city has leveraged its strengths in equipment manufacturing to seize opportunities in the new energy sector, and now it boasts three key industrial sectors: rare earth materials, solar power and wind power equipment manufacturing.

High-altitude Maerdang Hydropower Station in Northwest China starts operation

High-altitude Maerdang Hydropower Station, located on the upper reaches of the Yellow River in Northwest China, kicked off operation on Monday as its first generator unit is connected to the state grid.

The connection also marks an important step for the vast solar and wind power generation facilities in Northwest China’s Qinghai Province for full operation, the Xinhua News Agency reported. 

All the units of the Maerdang Hydropower Station will be put into operation by December 2024, and it is expected to generate an average of 7.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, when fully operational, equivalent to saving approximately 2.2 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 8.16 million tons per year.

Located in Qinghai Province, the station has a total of four hydropower generating units with a single unit capacity of 550 MW and another generator with a unit capacity of 120 MW. 

It is the core project of the first integrated clean-energy facility in the province to include hydropower, solar power, wind power and energy storage, built by China Energy Investment Corp, also known as China Energy.

The company said it will make full use of the abundant clean energy resources in West China, benefiting energy-shortage areas in the country’s eastern provinces.

State Grid Jining Power Supply Company: precision services secure power supply in key enterprises

Recently, major projects across Shandong Province have been moving forward vigorously, with a focus on increasing effective investment and accelerating construction for earlier operations. State Grid Jining Power Supply Company has proactively intervened by ramping up power grid building and improving power supply services to secure uninterrupted power supply. The aim is to facilitate the completion of major projects and push for a turnaround in overall economic performance in the province.

Shengfa Coking Co., Ltd. is a key project in provincial-level investment in Shandong. Its “coal-coking-ammonia” comprehensive utilization demonstration project covers an area of about 900 mu (60 hectares), mainly involving the plant for ammonia production through coking, coke dry quenching (CDQ) waste heat power generation, and comprehensive promotion and application of coke oven gas for ammonia production. Upon learning of the enterprise’s demand to install two 1,600 kVA transformers in the power distribution engineering project, the State Grid Jining Power Supply Company promptly responded by organizing the State Grid Yutai Power Supply Company to set up both an “account manager and project manager” to serve the project. To ensure that special matters would be handled in time, they offered a green channel for addressing the project’s power demands, streamlined the workflow to the maximum extent, and closely tracked progress. Multiple measures have been taken to guarantee efficiency across the whole process, including business handling, response to power supply solutions, on-the-spot coordination, acceptance upon completion, and electricity meter installation, to secure the power supply for construction and early acceptance of the power distribution project. Since last year, the State Grid Yutai Power Supply Company has dealt with high- and low-voltage business expansions for 186 customers with a combined capacity of 70,500 kVA, installing 15 pole-mounted switches and 36 sets of dropout fuses. Notably, all these affairs have been handled online.

In terms of supporting provincial-level key enterprises, the State Grid Jining Power Supply Company prioritizes serving key projects by establishing and improving a whole-process service mechanism for power supply.
